The GEIST Fund was launched in July 2020. In 2022, a shift in strategy was decided on, and work got underway to transform the Fund into an equity fund of funds (i.e., one that invests in third-party funds). By July 2023, the share of investments in third-party funds became significant (with more than a quarter of net assets invested), hence we consider July 1, 2023, to be the official date of the strategy change.

Andrey Movchan on GEIST

Over the last 15 years, only 20-30% of portfolio managers have outperformed US stock indexes. Anyone getting into that race should ask themselves: what makes me better than the 70-80% of professional investors who underperform the market?

Instead, what if you put together a portfolio of funds run by the managers that do beat the market over the long run? This is how GEIST tackles investing in the stock market – investing in carefully selected funds that have proven their ability to deliver alpha. The funds in the portfolio are selected by a team of experienced management professionals led by Elena Chirkova, a respected economist and investor and a very tough critic of managers.

Many (truly) good funds are unwilling to sell shares to private investors, especially small ones. But thanks to our size, reputation and persistence, we almost always manage to get a piece of the best funds.

I invest in the GEIST Fund myself and believe that for our clients who would like to have equity market exposure, GEIST is the right choice.
